Youth Cricket Nets

Ferndown Wayfarers Cricket Club has youth nets booked every Friday from 24th February to 20th April, 6-00pm to 7-00pm.

The Club are looking to recruit new players (Boys and Girls) from the age of Under 8 (year 3) upwards, for the outdoor teams that have been entered in Leagues and Cups.

The nets take place at Dorset Indoor Cricket Centre, Hurn Bridge, Christchurch, Dorset (home of Christchurch Football Club).

We will have ECB Qualified Cricket Coaches in attendance and there will be a small charge of £3.00 to cover net hire.

Midweek Indoor Leagues

The mid-week indoor season has come to an end with both Division 1 Ferndown Wayfarers teams ensuring top level indoor cricket next season.

Congratulations to both sides. Ferndown Wayfarers A won the clash of the two sides (played out in front of a packed gallery) however, Ferndown Wayfarers B ended the season higher in the table.

Ferndown Wayfarers C had a difficult season in Division 2, but a great cup run that took them to the quarter finals.

The Ferndown Wayfarers D side, comprising only of youth team players, rounded off an fantastic season with an emphatic victory over Bournemouth C. The season also included an impressive victory over a strong Poole Town B side.

Dave Ballam rolled back the years today to be the winner at Burley Golf Course on a wet, cold day in February. Although we have had shocking weather this week the course was open with only the use of 4 temporary greens and Dave’s self proclaimed “old man” style of golf suited this very narrow course. Steve Tilbury and Gary Martin were joint second in a good effort.

Iford Golf Club Results 21/1/12

Our smallest group so far played out at Iford on a rather pleasant day, with perfect golf conditions. Gary Martin once again was the star of the show with not only the award of best score on the day, but he also won the “Longest Drive” and “Closest to the Pin” competitions. Jake Brooks pushed him all the way with a record tying score of 41 points but Gary won with a new society record of 42 points. Lee Charlton also picked up a record for most expensive round ever taking 84 shots on the back 9 alone, and totaling 142 shots in total.

Queen’s Park Golf Club Results 8/1/12

Our first outing of the new year took us to Queen’s Park for a memorable visit. Time keeping obviously isn’t top of the agenda at Queen’s Park as a 9.38 tee off time meant we teed off at around 10.45, but that aside it was a good day for golf and the course is challenging in the right areas but still playable for the beginner. Rob Bowering was the star of the show this week with a resilient 39 points, all the practice down the driving range obviously paying off. Steve Tilbury came in with yet another second place with 38 points, and Paul Webster recorded his first podium finished with a tidy 36 points in 3rd place.

Solent Meads Results 10/12/11

Another first for our golf society with a visit to a par 3 course, Solent Meads, situated on the coast at Hengistbury Head so winds are very high, with holes varying from 64 yards to 190 yards its a challenging course for beginners and good practice for more seasoned players. 11 players took the challenge and the scores were so high that we decided not to count it towards handicap rules. Next year handicaps will be halved for this competition but a big well done to Richard Ballam, winning with 50 points, with the seasoned veteran Dave Ballam coming second with 49 and new player Jordan Warren third with 48 points.

Chairman’s Address Nov 2011

Our 2^nd Season has seen extensive improvement off the field and a “work in progress” on the field. Better wickets, 2 new artificial wickets, 2 new static and 2 new mobile nets, extensive repair to the lane access to the club are evidence of the clubs ambition and drive to move forward. Our Youth development continues to prosper with our Under 13 (Wolves) team winning their league and our Under 15 (Warriors) side reaching the Cup Final, where they were due to play Hamworthy. This final has now been held over until April 2012. For the coming season we are hoping to add Under 8 and Under 9 teams to our youth section.

We are also looking to overhaul the playing side on a Saturday by designating our 2^nd team to be a Development Team. This will be run by our Head Coach and Youth Development Team Officer, Steve Bishopp. In addition we are looking to allocate coaches to all our Saturday teams as well as returning to a specific day for our Youth sections training.

My thanks go to my hardworking Committee for their part in the “team” driving the club forward, all the Youth helpers, Michael & Jean Lingwood and a special mention to “Bish” and his team for producing a splendid group of youngsters who are the future of the club.
